Cochrane has always been my home. I farm and ranch in the area and have always taken an interest in building our community. The Cochrane Foundation helps to fulfill that goal.

As a resident of Cochrane since 1979, my involvement in a variety of business organizations and voluntary activities has demonstrated the power of community to create possibility, connection and growth.

My family has operated a cattle ranch in Cochrane for four generations. Cochrane will always be my home. I am passionate about civic participation and am tremendously grateful to continue growing alongside this community I love – personally, in my legal career and with the Foundation.

Derek Newman

I am proud to call Cochrane home and the place my children will grow up in.  It’s a blessing to play a role in this town’s development. The Foundation is a way for me to use my career  in philanthropy to ensure this community thrives today and for the next generation.

Melanie Dekker

Director

I proudly work in non-profit at the Alberta Cancer Foundation. I have one young son whom I look forward to raising in this incredible community, following in the footsteps of his dad who is born and raised here. Community engagement is a core value of who I am and I am grateful to be part of the Cochrane Foundation.

Vision & History

Three community-minded leaders came together in 1993 to create Cochrane’s community foundation. Neil Harvie, Ray Zell and Bob Aylesworth believed in the power of community foundations and enriching Cochrane and area for future generations.

The vision and legacy lives on. Our board continues to involve leaders in town that you know and trust. Get to know us! Get involved!

Join us in building a stronger community!

What is a Community Foundation?

Community foundations bring local knowledge, experience and a network of community relationships to grant making. We are a public foundation created by and for the people of Cochrane and have a deep knowledge of local needs and opportunities.

We act as champions for issues that matter and direct grants to everything from shelter, education, and care for those in need, to the arts, environment and recreation.

We make charitable giving easy, flexible and effective. We work with you and your advisors to maximize the value of charitable gifts. Our goal is to help you meet important needs in the community, fulfill your charitable goals, and maximize your tax advantages.

Gifts can support any cause you can imagine. We believe in the power of individuals and organizations working together to effect positive change in our community. Gifts are pooled and invested and form permanent community assets. Earnings from these assets are granted back into the community each year to registered charities.
